A Word from the Directors
Nicolas Girard Deltruc / Executive Director
During the past year, our programming team screened nearly 3,000 works to come up with a final selection of more than 200 Quebec, Canadian and international films, along with a program devoted to new media technologies, in tandem with meetings, activities and events & all of it chosen to reflect the highest standards of excellence. Each piece presented at this 37th FNC offers a unique perspective designed to appeal to a broad audience of film enthusiasts or those with a narrower focus on specific aspects of cinematographic art. Making this art and this knowledge available to increasingly large audiences is the key to our event's success and ongoing development. Each independent work, be it in cinematography, multimedia, music or some other artform, is an experiment that stimulates our mind and our senses. The diversity and multiplicity of these experiments stimulate reflection. Now, more than ever, we need to be aware that maintaining diversity is the only way to ensure respect for our identities and freedoms. A huge thank you to everyone on the FNC team, as well as to the many volunteers without whom this 37th event would never have become reality.

Your Montreal Festival It's been said before, many times and in many ways: the Festival du nouveau cinéma is one of-a-kind. An invaluable, daring, precious, provocative, dynamic, fair, relaxed, nurturing, inspiring, intimate, loyal to its filmmakers, lively and generous festival. And that's all still true, as you'll discover in the *6 Star* menu we're posting for this 37th event. Astonishing films, events and guests from some sixty countries, sure to touch your heart & mind. We hope to see more of their cinema on our screens throughout the year. LA LOUVE IS FUTURE With its ever growing audience, the FNC is clearly enjoying phenomenal success. Indeed, filmmakers and professionals locally and internationally have a soft spot for this festival. Having said that, our Festival is painfully underfunded, which hampers its development in substantial ways. Well, let's forget Madame Magouille and Monsieur Ticoune. We need to envision a new future! A future in which Montreal and Quebec finally take their rightful place on the international stage. We need a festival that truly reflects who we are, our diversity and creativity. |
