A Word from the Directors
This past year has been full of surprises. Confronted with the economic crisis we have faced many challenges, but we pulled together in the spirit of collaboration and, after many hours of hard work and analysis, discovered new creative solutions and strategies.
We are especially proud this year to present more than 250 Canadian, Quebecois and international films, along with a brand new section on cross-platform art and a number of exciting parallel activities and events. It all takes place October 7th to 18th. Every one of the works chosen is a unique creation that will appeal to lovers of the arts in all their forms.
We had the opportunity in 2009 to enter into discussions with several groups in the private sector, to tell them about the mission and core values that have guided the FNC over its 38 years. QUEBECOR, already involved in protecting our film art heritage, was particularly supportive of our ideas and our vision. As a result of our new partnership with this local company with an international reputation, the FNC will establish a $15,000 official competition award to accompany the Louve d’Or-QUEBECOR prize.
A huge thank you to the entire team at the Festival du nouveau cinéma and to our many volunteers, without whom this 38th event would never have come about.
Art that speaks to us
Moves us
To see in other ways
With hearts and minds
An insightful / inciteful vision
By visionary filmmakers around the globe
Programmed by a tough, spirited, fun-loving team
And by 2011 if all goes well
We’ll be there with you to celebrate our 40th
In a magnificent original new site with its sights on the future of cinema
