Ana is the latest work by Montreal audiovisual artist Ouananiche (well-known for his remix of Next Floor by Denis Villeneuve). At the crossroads of film, art video, concert and digital art, this musical video performance will live mix the cult film phenomenon Amer (Temps Ø Grand Prize in 2009), directed by genre film darlings Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani.
When Ouananiche saw Amer in 2009 at the Festival du nouveau cinéma, he was, like so many others, blown away by the film’s visual power and its masterful, almost sensory homage to 1970s Italian horror films. Now the festival that spawned the idea for this performance brings you its North American premiere. A dark, unpredictable and immersive half-hour, this hallucinogenic performance delves into the intimate relations between image and sound, spiralling down into the schizophrenic sensations, phantasmagoric desires and subliminal reminiscences of a disturbed woman.
