Synopsis :

It’s December 31st. Radu and Adina, who’ve been together for nine months, are celebrating new Year’s eve with friends. But despite the festive atmosphere, Radu remains strangely aloof, barely participating in the revelers’ conversations. During a cigarette break alone with his girlfriend, he abruptly announces that their relationship is doomed to failure and he would sooner end it now. In shock, Adina falls to pieces while Radu leaves to find Nadia, the old flame he has never forgotten. The first feature by Paul Negoescu (known for his short films) does not, as you may think, take place in Thailand but in a trendy Bucarest neighbourhood packed with chic restaurants and nightclubs. This nocturnal sojourn of romanian middle-class 30-somethings is a penetrating analysis of young people caught in the eddy of emotional confusion. Screened during Critics’ week at the last Venice Film festival, this lucid work elegantly examines the intricacies of love relationships.
