Synopsis :

ORIZZONTI AWARD AT VENICE FILM FESTIVAL 2012 Master Chinese documentary filmmaker Wang Bing returns with Three Sisters, winner of the Orizzonti award at this year’s Venice Film Festival. With this film, Wang continues his exploration of Chinese workers and peasants, plunging us into the everyday lives of ten-year-old Yingying, six-year-old Zhenzhen and four-year-old Fenfen, whose singsong names belie a grim existence. The three sisters have only a small plot of arid land to farm in order to survive, and their young bodies already bear the marks of their heavy burden. As with all his films, Wang manages to capture the toll that history has taken on his subjects. His brilliant composition and uncanny ability to listen to their stories provide a glimpse into their hearts and souls. As one of the most fascinating chroniclers of contemporary China, Wang draws a delicate and visually stunning portrait of the nation and its people, offering audiences worldwide an important look at the human condition.
