Gould produced the radio documentary The Idea of North in 1967, using interviews with five subjects about their experiences living in northern Canada, in which voices intermingle and create stunning sonic superimpositions. This “contrapuntal documentary’s” visual adaptation consists in this experimental documentary film by Judith Pearlman created in 1970 in collaboration with Gould. An oneiric and existential journey to the North, whose image-sound combination techniques remains deeply revolutionary today.
