All the greats are here: Jeff Bridges, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Woody Allen, Richard Dreyfuss, John Travolta, Jon Voight and many others file before the camera of documentary filmmaker Tom Donahue to pay homage to an unsung American film legend, casting director Marion Dougherty. After an early career in television with the series Naked City and Route 66, Dougherty was the one who brought James Dean to the big screen, paired Newman and Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and cast Robin Williams in The World According to Garp. She was one of the first casting directors to receive a standalone screen credit and the first woman to become vice president of casting at Paramount Pictures. Almost completely unknown to the general public, Marion Dougherty died in December 2011 at the age of 88. A veritable star and pioneer of her craft, she finally takes centre stage as the heroine of this vibrant and moving film.
