Launch : 10 fois 1 minute — Conseil québécois des arts médiatiques (CQAM) As part of the 50th anniversary of video art (1963–2013), a landmark to be commemorated in Marseille this com- ing November, the CQAM has commissioned works from ten artists. In a special preview, 10 fois 1 minute offers a glimpse through light and sound of current trends in video art, with the artists and partnering centres in attendance. Featured: one-minute videos by Nathalie Bujold, Pascal Dufaux, Dominic Gagnon, Isabelle Hayeur, Frédéric Lavoie, Eduardo Menz, Alain Pelletier, Nelly-ève Rajotte, Sabrina Ratté and Jocelyn Robert. Produced in association with La Bande Vidéo, Daïmõn, GIV, OBORO, Vidéographe, Perte de Signal and PRIM. Thanks to support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), the CQAM will take part in the 50th anniversary of video art organized by Les Instants Vidéos numériques et poétiques (Marseille). A delegation of artists, representatives of artist-run centres and video art curators will travel to Marseille to present 10 fois 1 minute along with five programs of Québec video art that look back over the last half-century. The video commissions have been made possible thanks to financial support from the Canada Council for the Arts. The event is preceded at 5pm by Écrans et autres territoires, a discussion moderated by John Blouin, presented in collaboration with Accès culture and Antitube, that focuses on the moving image, released from the boundaries of theatres in the era of multi-purpose screens. DOMINIC GAGNON Video Performance Society’s Space is a dazzling and intelligent remake of Guy Debord’s famous film La Société du Spectacle (Society of the Spectacle), based on his 1967 book of the same name. In Society’s Space, contemporary images are superimposed over the original black-and-white film using viral and HD footage gleaned from the Web. Debord’s original, analogue voice-over accompanies this collage, giving new life to thoughts that were cut short. Érick d’Orion injects the video clips with gripping noise music, creating an acute sense of ten- sion between the viewer’s mind and body and between time and space. With Érick d’Orion.
