Le bouleversant d’humanité Des Hommes et des Dieux de Xavier Beauvois (Le Petit Lieutenant) vient de s’ajouter à la 39e du Festival. Une projection unique aura lieu le mardi 19 octobre à 19h30 au Cinéma Impérial (Centre Sandra & Leo Kolber, Salle Lucie & André Chagnon).
Un monastère perché dans les montagnes du Maghreb, dans les années 1990. Huit moines chrétiens français vivent en harmonie avec leurs frères musulmans. Quand une équipe de travailleurs étrangers est massacrée par un groupe islamiste, la terreur s’installe dans la région. L’armée propose une protection aux moines, mais ceux-ci refusent. Doivent-ils partir ? Malgré les menaces grandissantes qui les entourent, la décision des moines de rester coûte que coûte, se concrétise jour après jour… Ce film s’inspire librement de la vie des Moines Cisterciens de Tibhirine en Algérie de 1993 jusqu’à leur enlèvement en 1996.
Des Hommes et des Dieux a remporté le Grand Prix du Festival de Cannes 2010 et vient tout juste d’être sélectionné pour représenter la France aux Oscars. Avec déjà plus d’1,5 millions de spectateurs en France, après seulement 3 semaines à l’affiche, le film connaît un véritable succès d’estime tout autant que public. Des Hommes et des Dieux met en vedette un casting remarquable avec notamment Lambert Wilson, Michael Lonsdale et Olivier Rabourdin.
Des Hommes et des Dieux est distribué par Métropole Films. À l’affiche au Québec le 25 février 2011.
