Le 40e Festival du nouveau cinéma qui se terminait de façon magistrale avec la présentation de Monsieur Lazhar samedi dernier, a connu la meilleure édition de toute son histoire ! En effet, cette édition anniversaire aura été marquée par une augmentation significative au niveau des recettes et par une fréquentation record des salles et des événements !
Durant 11 jours, les festivaliers ont pu apprécier plus de 292 films en provenance de 45 pays ; les nouvelles œuvres de cinéastes bien établis tels que Lars von Trier ou Pedro Almodovar, mais également de belles découvertes, notamment en Sélection internationale, dont la qualité des films était particulièrement impressionnante cette année. Même chose du côté des œuvres québécoises, où les premiers long métrages d’Ivan Grbovic et Anne Émond, Roméo Onze et Nuit #1, ont tous deux été récompensés d’un prix.
Cette 40e édition a été marquée par plusieurs moments forts, à commencer par le film d’ouverture La Guerre est déclarée, en présence de la réalisatrice et comédienne Valérie Donzelli et de son producteur Édouard Weil. Plusieurs se souviendront également de la visite de Wim Wenders, venu présenter Pina, une œuvre magistrale en 3D dédiée à la réputée chorégraphe Pina Bausch, qui a ébloui autant le public que le milieu de la danse, mobilisé en grand nombre pour l’événement. La présentation de Survivre au progrès (Surviving Progress), le documentaire percutant de Mathieu Roy et Harold Crooks, en ouverture de la section Focus, a marqué les esprits, tout comme Toucher le ciel (Touch The Sky) d’Adrian Wills, sur le voyage dans l’espace de Guy Laliberté. Les hommages à Amos Gitai, Asghar Fahardi, Raul Ruiz, Michel Boujut, Peter Falk, Georges Lévesque, George Kuchar et Marthe Turgeon ont été vivement appréciés par le public.
La section Temps Ø n’a pas été en reste, avec entre autres la visite de la mégastar japonaise Megumi Kagurazaka, venue présenter Guilty of Romance, de Sion Sono, ainsi que celle de Romain Gavras, qui a remporté le Prix du public Temps Ø avec Notre jour viendra. Du côté des nouveaux médias, les professionnels ont convergé en masse au FNC Pro durant les trois jours de conférences, tables rondes et rencontres alors que le FNC Lab a attiré les foules avec ses installations, performances, films et œuvres interactives et a conquis un public jeune et exigeant. Enfin, du côté du court métrage, les séances Focus affichaient complet.
Le FNC a célébré ses 40 ans dans les lieux suivants: Excentris, Cinéma Impérial Centre Sandra & Leo Kolber Salle Lucie & André Chagnon, Cinéma Parallèle, Cineplex Odéon Quartier Latin, Cinémathèque québécoise, Cinéma ONF et le Quartier général, situé à l’Agora Hydro-Québec du Cœur des Sciences de l’UQÀM.
Le Festival du nouveau cinéma est présenté par Quebecor en collaboration avec La Fondation Daniel Langlois et rendu possible grâce à l’aide financière de la SODEC, de Téléfilm Canada, du ministère du Tourisme, du ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l’Occupation du territoire, du ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, de la Ville de Montréal, du Conseil des Arts du Canada, de Tourisme Montréal, du Conseil des arts deMontréal et de Patrimoine canadien. Le Festival remercie également son partenaire majeur la STM, ses fournisseurs officiels et tous les distributeurs pour leur appui.
La 41e édition du FNC aura lieu du 10 au 21 octobre 2012.
